October 24, 2007 (September 14, Chinese New Year), Chang E on the 1st lunar exploration satellite was successfully launched. The
Chang E One of China's first lunar orbiting satellites. Named for the ancient Chinese mythology Chang E. 2007 10 24 18 (UTC +8, the same below), take the Long March III A carrier rocket at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center successfully launched. The total weight of the satellite about 2350 kg, and a size of 2000 mm × 1720 mm × 2200 mm, and the solar cell panels started life of greater than 1 18 m in length. The satellite detection target: to obtain three-dimensional images of the lunar surface; analyze the content of useful elements of the lunar surface and the distribution characteristics of the material type; detect the thickness of the lunar regolith and the Earth to the Moon's space environment. Chang'e One is the task of the first phase of the project of China Chang E project since January 2004, and the first phase will cost 1.4 billion yuan.
