After studying Law, Juris Doctor in 1944. 1948-1960, served as Secretary of the Austrian embassy, envoy, Ambassador and Permanent observers and other staff. 1964-1968 and 1970-1971, the Austrian Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Austrian Foreign Minister from 1968-1970. Two consecutive terms, the Secretary-General of the United Nations in 1972-1981. After the former President of the International Action Council.
