Kissinger and Gromyko In in 1957, Andrei Gromyko succeeds Dmitri Shepilov the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Union. Under Stalin, he enjoyed a high reputation in the United Nations. The State Department said, to rectify this means the political importance of this position is relatively reduced, but other experts say that this means that the Soviet Union tend to be tougher domestic and foreign policy. Shepilov former Soviet Communist Party newspaper Pravda editor, has now been re-appointed to the Central Committee of the CPSU, engaged in party work.
