during World War II, Slovakia became a vassal state of Germany. The Slovak Communist Party led the people to carry out extensive anti-fascist struggle. In early August 1944, the Soviet advance to the Czechoslovak border. Inspired by the victory of the Soviet Army in the 29th Slovakia to the holding of a referendum armed uprising swept two-thirds of the territory. On September 1, the Slovak National Liberation Committee announced to take over all the powers. France and Germany sent eight divisions repression. The rebel army has suffered heavy losses and retreated into the mountains in late October, to carry out guerrilla warfare.
