September 23, 1850 (August 18) Gengxu Artigas, the national hero of Uruguay's death.
José Hewa Theo Artigas (Jose Gervasio Artigas, 1764 June 19, 2011 -1850 years 9, 23) The father of independence of the the Uruguay national hero, Uruguay.
1811 led the war of independence. In the Las Piedras Battle, defeated the Spanish colonial army, then led the troops to lay siege to the Spaniards control of Montevideo. From 1814 to 1816, the five provinces in the northeastern part of Uruguay and Argentina after another out of La Plata, the United Provinces, composed as he headed the Federal League, he served as the "protector" of the alliance. In February 1815, the troops of Artigas once captured in Argentina under the occupation of Montevideo, the establishment of a parliament and government. 1816, the Portuguese military invasion from Brazil to Uruguay, occupied Montevideo in January of the following year, Artigas led his troops back into the mainland to continue the fight, was defeated in 1820, back into the Paraguay. Seclusion for 30 years, where he died in Asuncion on September 23, 1850.
